FAQs

  • Our online (telehealth) psychology sessions take place on a secure digital platform to protect your privacy. Before your appointment, you will receive a link via email and SMS. At the time of your appointment simply click the link to begin your video session. We also offer phone sessions if you would prefer and will call you at the time of your appointment.

  • No referral is required to book a private psychology session. Self-referrals can be made by contacting us via phone or email.

    If you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or Psychiatrist.

  • We support adults (aged 18 and over) with a wide range of concerns, including but not limited to:

    • Various forms of anxiety and stress

    • Depression and low mood

    • Burnout and performance blocks

    • Perfectionism and self-doubt

    • Relationship challenges

    • Trauma

    If you’re not sure whether your concern ‘fits’, you’re always welcome to reach out. If you require a formal assessment for legal or funding purposes this is not currently available through Cortex Psychology.

  • Yes. All sessions are strictly confidential, in line with ethical standards. There are rare exceptions where disclosure is required by law (e.g., if someone is at serious risk of harm). We will discuss this with you during our initial appointment.

  • 50-minute sessions are $250.

    You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $145.25 per session with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan which would reduce out of pocket expenses to $104.75 per session for up to 10 subsidised sessions per calendar year.

    Cancellations made at least 48 hours before the appointment time incur no fees. Cancellations between 24 and 48 hours prior will be charged a $50 fee. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment will incur a $100 fee.

  • Your initial consultation is a structured, collaborative conversation designed to explore your goals, challenges, and background. We’ll work together to tailor a plan that aligns with your needs. It’s also a chance for you to get a feel for whether our approach feels right for you.

  • The number of sessions needed depends on your individual goals and circumstances. Some clients attend short-term treatment for focused support, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper personal development. This is always discussed and reviewed collaboratively.

  • If you have private health insurance with extras cover that includes psychology, you might be able to access a rebate. It's best to check with your provider since coverage may differ. We can provide you with an invoice for this purpose.

    You may submit a claim through your private health insurance or a Mental Health Treatment Plan, but not both.

  • Yes, we offer after hours appointments to suit busy schedules including evening work on select weekdays.
